Weekly Photo Challenge Week 6: Special FX

View on ExposureRoom

The project I decided to show here was a Special FX Sound Design I did for an RPG Video Game.  30 seconds into my Demo Reel you can find the piece that I am referring to. For this project I designed multiple sounds.  The most notable one is the Eyeball Laser Cannon sound. This sound was one of my favorites to design.  So let's go behind the scenes and I'll reveal to you my secrets in how I designed this cool sound! First things first I needed a fire explosion sound. I searched on the internet for a royalty free sound. If you have the means to, you could also get a field recorder and gather the sounds to record a fire exploding. Due to time constraints on this video game project I decided to go with the digital library route and find the sound. Next I imported this track into Pro Tools. I then warped the sound and added some EQ to make the sound my own. I increased the low end so it would have more rumble. Next I applied polyphonic mode warping so I could detune the sample a couple tones. Now it was beginning to sound more epic! Next to achieve the "Pshhyyyooo" effect I needed to gather some white noise. In pro tools there is a white noise generator. Their I created a couple seconds of just basic white noise. I then fed that samples channel to a reverb effect to make it sound as if it was in cave. Next I took that cave-white noise sounds and bounced it in place. I did this so i could edit it as a wave form. Then I took this new wave form and I chose and applied an "Audio-Suite" effect from pro tools called "Vari-fi".  I took this "vari-fi" effect and designed it so it would make the sound decline in pitch. Then after adjusting that sample I carefully layered it on top of the fire explosion sound to give that laser explosion effect! To give a finishing touch I added a bit more EQ and a little more reverb!

EOC Week 6: How do I see my role starting in the industry

 source
How do I see my role starting in the Industry?
I can see my role in the industry going into a good start. I'm ambitious and determined to be somebody of worth!  I've received a great education at The Art Institute of Las Vegas so I believe I'm covered in my basic skills. As I gain more experience in the industry I'll develop who I am and gain special skills for my own style.  I'd like to see myself networking as much as possible and making long-time friends in the industry.  I want to have a strong healthy impact on my peers in the field.  I want to be known for more than just my exceptional work, I want to be known for my variety of skills. Depending on which route in the industry I'd like to take might be a determining factor of how I handle my approach. If I want to work in radio I'll have to start at the bottom and put my hours in until I can work a show.  If I want to work live sound for maybe a theatrical show like Cirque Du Soleil I might have to gain experience elsewhere and make connections into that area. I think where I'd really like to work after College is possibly doing full time DJing for some of the night clubs in Las Vegas. I already have a lot of experience DJing weddings and I think this would be a great job for me.  Night Club DJ's make quite a lot of money and it's a flexible job. I still like to do freelance audio with recording bands and such. During my time being a DJ I'll have more time to work on side projects like sound for independent films. The audio industry is such a magnificent place because there are a multitude of professional routes I can work. I can even work more than one at a time! I think my life is flowing into a great direction. Wherever I begin I'm confident I'll be off to a great start!

Weekly Photo Challenge Week 5: Director Chair

ChairSource

For this weeks photo challenge I photoshopped myself sitting on a director's chair inside a movie theater watching a cinema.  I found a picture of myself someone had taken of me in a recording studio. I cut out all the background so only I was left. It so happened that my hand was holding a mouse but was in the position as if I was holding a remote or setting my hand on an arm rest. I decided to keep my hand in the picture. Next, I googled a picture of your "typical" director chair. The next part of this process was actually kind of complicated. I double the layers of the director chair and put one underneath and above the layer of me inside of Photoshop. I then masked out the upper chair carefully in certain spots to make it appear I had been sitting in the same direction. I made minor transformation adjustments to the layer of myself so it looked like I fit. The hard part was taken care of! Next I googled an image of a theatre. I made sure to find one that had a blank screen so I could work with. I didn't like the color scheme of this particular theatre so I originally changed the color to red. Then I had realized that real theaters would be dark so I changed the room color to a blackish/ night color so it would appear I was watching my own film. Next I found an awesome picture had shot of me while I was in New York. Their camera had incredible clarity and a great lens! The picture she had taken made it look like we were in a movie, even though it was a still shot. So I decided to import this into Photoshop. I lined it up to the blank screen of the background and distorted it a little so it would fit in the box. This project was a challenge but I liked it because it helped me freshen up on my Photoshop skills!

EOC Week 5: Progress towards my Four Professional Contacts and Progress on Networking

I seem to be doing pretty well. I've been networking like crazy these past few weeks. I've been meeting so many new people who have been in positions to advance my career. I've also acquired new gear in my profession so I can work more jobs. It's been a great month. One of my most notable experiences was working on a set with the Jabawockeez dance crew! One of their members decided make his own rap song and wanted a music video. That day I met many people!! It was a great experience and I learned more behind the scenes information about my field. As for my four professional contacts, that has been going good as well. I've met a dependable banker I can rely on to help me through my financial goals. I've also met a lawyer who is also dependable and carries a lot of knowledge about this industry. I'm still working on finding the other two, but it will just be a matter of time. I've been meeting so many people!!! Life is good I must say!

Week 4 Photo Challenge: Original Movie Poster

For this movie poster I decided to build on the idea from my Starburst Commercial.  This movie can be an exciting ride of thrills as we follow famous DJ's around the globe doing shows and learning about their adventures.  This is going to be a documentary style movie.  There are other movies on the market similar to this one, such as the Electric Daisy Carnival Experience which features all the carnivals from the previous years.  (The Electric Daisy Carnival is a Concert that has 100's of DJ's performing). The "unwrap the party" movie will be sponsored from Starburst and show many DJ's traveling the world and doing events including the Electric Daisy Carnival and others like it.  I think this movie would be great for the DJ fan base. DJ's these days are the new rock stars, their being followed everywhere they go and they're playing many festivals and arenas all over different countries.  This is going to be a great inside look at what's going on behind the scenes and how a DJ is living his life on the edge.  It will show the ups and downs of their wonderful lives!

EOC Week 4: Stab at Executive Summary

Source
The product or service I'd like to sell are the services I can provide within the audio realm of productions.  I'm skilled in many trades that are audio related including: studio recording, field sound production, radio broadcasting, djing. I'd like to design a company that incorporate all of these aspects. I want my company to be the one stop shop! Of course I won't be able to start off immediately into the field like that so I'll start somewhere I excel in like DJ'ing and add more services as I expand. As all good companies should, I should expand to something amazing. That will definitely be the goal of my company. I don't want my company to be the small fish in the pond for too long. We want to be the big guys everyone runs to for help! The big kid on the block everyone knows!
