Weekly Photo Challenge Week 6: Special FX

View on ExposureRoom

The project I decided to show here was a Special FX Sound Design I did for an RPG Video Game.  30 seconds into my Demo Reel you can find the piece that I am referring to. For this project I designed multiple sounds.  The most notable one is the Eyeball Laser Cannon sound. This sound was one of my favorites to design.  So let's go behind the scenes and I'll reveal to you my secrets in how I designed this cool sound! First things first I needed a fire explosion sound. I searched on the internet for a royalty free sound. If you have the means to, you could also get a field recorder and gather the sounds to record a fire exploding. Due to time constraints on this video game project I decided to go with the digital library route and find the sound. Next I imported this track into Pro Tools. I then warped the sound and added some EQ to make the sound my own. I increased the low end so it would have more rumble. Next I applied polyphonic mode warping so I could detune the sample a couple tones. Now it was beginning to sound more epic! Next to achieve the "Pshhyyyooo" effect I needed to gather some white noise. In pro tools there is a white noise generator. Their I created a couple seconds of just basic white noise. I then fed that samples channel to a reverb effect to make it sound as if it was in cave. Next I took that cave-white noise sounds and bounced it in place. I did this so i could edit it as a wave form. Then I took this new wave form and I chose and applied an "Audio-Suite" effect from pro tools called "Vari-fi".  I took this "vari-fi" effect and designed it so it would make the sound decline in pitch. Then after adjusting that sample I carefully layered it on top of the fire explosion sound to give that laser explosion effect! To give a finishing touch I added a bit more EQ and a little more reverb!

EOC Week 6: How do I see my role starting in the industry

 source
How do I see my role starting in the Industry?
I can see my role in the industry going into a good start. I'm ambitious and determined to be somebody of worth!  I've received a great education at The Art Institute of Las Vegas so I believe I'm covered in my basic skills. As I gain more experience in the industry I'll develop who I am and gain special skills for my own style.  I'd like to see myself networking as much as possible and making long-time friends in the industry.  I want to have a strong healthy impact on my peers in the field.  I want to be known for more than just my exceptional work, I want to be known for my variety of skills. Depending on which route in the industry I'd like to take might be a determining factor of how I handle my approach. If I want to work in radio I'll have to start at the bottom and put my hours in until I can work a show.  If I want to work live sound for maybe a theatrical show like Cirque Du Soleil I might have to gain experience elsewhere and make connections into that area. I think where I'd really like to work after College is possibly doing full time DJing for some of the night clubs in Las Vegas. I already have a lot of experience DJing weddings and I think this would be a great job for me.  Night Club DJ's make quite a lot of money and it's a flexible job. I still like to do freelance audio with recording bands and such. During my time being a DJ I'll have more time to work on side projects like sound for independent films. The audio industry is such a magnificent place because there are a multitude of professional routes I can work. I can even work more than one at a time! I think my life is flowing into a great direction. Wherever I begin I'm confident I'll be off to a great start!

Weekly Photo Challenge Week 5: Director Chair

ChairSource

For this weeks photo challenge I photoshopped myself sitting on a director's chair inside a movie theater watching a cinema.  I found a picture of myself someone had taken of me in a recording studio. I cut out all the background so only I was left. It so happened that my hand was holding a mouse but was in the position as if I was holding a remote or setting my hand on an arm rest. I decided to keep my hand in the picture. Next, I googled a picture of your "typical" director chair. The next part of this process was actually kind of complicated. I double the layers of the director chair and put one underneath and above the layer of me inside of Photoshop. I then masked out the upper chair carefully in certain spots to make it appear I had been sitting in the same direction. I made minor transformation adjustments to the layer of myself so it looked like I fit. The hard part was taken care of! Next I googled an image of a theatre. I made sure to find one that had a blank screen so I could work with. I didn't like the color scheme of this particular theatre so I originally changed the color to red. Then I had realized that real theaters would be dark so I changed the room color to a blackish/ night color so it would appear I was watching my own film. Next I found an awesome picture had shot of me while I was in New York. Their camera had incredible clarity and a great lens! The picture she had taken made it look like we were in a movie, even though it was a still shot. So I decided to import this into Photoshop. I lined it up to the blank screen of the background and distorted it a little so it would fit in the box. This project was a challenge but I liked it because it helped me freshen up on my Photoshop skills!

EOC Week 5: Progress towards my Four Professional Contacts and Progress on Networking

I seem to be doing pretty well. I've been networking like crazy these past few weeks. I've been meeting so many new people who have been in positions to advance my career. I've also acquired new gear in my profession so I can work more jobs. It's been a great month. One of my most notable experiences was working on a set with the Jabawockeez dance crew! One of their members decided make his own rap song and wanted a music video. That day I met many people!! It was a great experience and I learned more behind the scenes information about my field. As for my four professional contacts, that has been going good as well. I've met a dependable banker I can rely on to help me through my financial goals. I've also met a lawyer who is also dependable and carries a lot of knowledge about this industry. I'm still working on finding the other two, but it will just be a matter of time. I've been meeting so many people!!! Life is good I must say!

Week 4 Photo Challenge: Original Movie Poster

For this movie poster I decided to build on the idea from my Starburst Commercial.  This movie can be an exciting ride of thrills as we follow famous DJ's around the globe doing shows and learning about their adventures.  This is going to be a documentary style movie.  There are other movies on the market similar to this one, such as the Electric Daisy Carnival Experience which features all the carnivals from the previous years.  (The Electric Daisy Carnival is a Concert that has 100's of DJ's performing). The "unwrap the party" movie will be sponsored from Starburst and show many DJ's traveling the world and doing events including the Electric Daisy Carnival and others like it.  I think this movie would be great for the DJ fan base. DJ's these days are the new rock stars, their being followed everywhere they go and they're playing many festivals and arenas all over different countries.  This is going to be a great inside look at what's going on behind the scenes and how a DJ is living his life on the edge.  It will show the ups and downs of their wonderful lives!

EOC Week 4: Stab at Executive Summary

Source
The product or service I'd like to sell are the services I can provide within the audio realm of productions.  I'm skilled in many trades that are audio related including: studio recording, field sound production, radio broadcasting, djing. I'd like to design a company that incorporate all of these aspects. I want my company to be the one stop shop! Of course I won't be able to start off immediately into the field like that so I'll start somewhere I excel in like DJ'ing and add more services as I expand. As all good companies should, I should expand to something amazing. That will definitely be the goal of my company. I don't want my company to be the small fish in the pond for too long. We want to be the big guys everyone runs to for help! The big kid on the block everyone knows!

Week 3 Photo Challenge: Storyboard for Commercial

This piece posted above is an example of a script I wrote, directed, edited, and produced.  The commercial titled "Unwrap the Party" is about 30 seconds long.  This commercial is basically a party advertisement that promotes Starburst.  It starts off with a guy having troubles trying to DJ an unresponsive crowd.  He tries everything he can but it's just not working.  He turns his back to the audience to take a breather and reassemble his thoughts.  He reaches into his backpack and grabs his favorite snack.  An unopened fresh pack of juicy Starburst chews.  He slowly unwraps the package and pulls out a square.  He takes a square and pops it in his mouth. He tilts his back into bliss as everything around him turns white and all sound is fading away.  He enters a state of euphoria and gains the ultimate energy. He flips back around and lays down a track for the audience that makes them go crazy.  Suddenly the club starts raining down Starburst squares and people raise their hands to catch them and dance to the music.  As a finishing sexy touch to the commercial a celebrity is seen dancing in the club as well.  The camera dollies into where she is dancing next to a supermodel guy. She catches a Starburst and pops one in her mouth wrapped. As the camera pans from to right to left she unwraps the Starburst and passes it to him as she kisses him.  The scene fades to black and the title "Unwrap the Party" appears and the dance music fades as well.

Week 3 EOC: Where are you now and where are you going?

As a young professional in my career I am on the first train to success! I'm in my final hours of college and on my way to graduation.  Opportunities and steps in my career are knocking on my every door.  I'm so excited to work in my career field!  I'm doing everything I can to bridge connections with the people who will help boost my opportunities.  Not only am I looking for people who can help me progress but I am also looking for people who will be long time friends in my field of audio and video.  I love to talk about subjects involving work I do with others and I love to learn what others have learned through their ventures in their career as well!  Inside my heart I am happy with from where I came, and where I am going.  Establishing myself for the person I am today was no easy task and establishing who I will be tomorrow is my greater challenge!  My major goal as of now is to work my way into a steady paying job. I'm so grateful and blessed that I've been offered so many great opportunities.  Right now I'm just feeling everything out to follow the best possible path to advance my career. I don't just want to take any old job, I want to apply my skills towards something great that can evolve into something even more magnificent. Honestly, it's not so much about the money in the beginning of my career., for me it's about the experience.  I'm so determined and ambitious about my career! Just give me air, and I'll breath success!!

BOC Week 4: Resume Project

Week 2 Photo Challenge

So in this picture I'm doing some field sound work for a local night club in town at the Wynn Casino called Surrender.  Well actually during the day it's called Encore Beach Club.  The DJ performing is a little hard to see behind the guys with their hands in the air, but his name is Afrojack.  Afrojack is a famous DJ among the house music scene and is headliner almost everywhere he performs.  This particular day was a special moment because it was Memorial Day Weekend and it was a party extravaganza!  Some of the most prized performers in the DJ scene were throwing amazing parties.  A company I work for called Screen Werks was hired by Encore Beach Club to capture the whole event on video. I used my field recorder to capture some of the crowd chants to add some extra flare to our videos! Since then my gear has actually improved and I no longer use those white headphones.  I now use professional Sennheiser HD280's!  This picture captures a time in my life in the beginning of my career. Since this wonderful event I've had a plethora of amazing jobs and opportunities rise from this moment!!

Week 2 EOC: Get Some Copyright Law Under Your Belt

3 Website Sources
http://copyright.gov/
http://lawyers.law.cornell.edu/
http://www.hg.org/intell.html

The laws of this land are a little hard to understand if you don't have the right approach. The websites above have an amazing knowledge base of information!  It's definitely not a Lawyer by all means but they are good resources if you're trying to search for information on your own.  At the Cornell site you can search through tons of real United States cases and research their verdicts. Through the copyright website you can learn all there is to know about copyrights and they function in our government. There are also links on that website to learn about patents, trademarks, and etc.  At the HG site you can search multiple definitions and meaning of terms used in law.  There are also Attorney searches available to help you locate someone within your area.

Week 1 Photo Challenge: Animation Festival

So for this weeks photo challenge I used xtranormal.com's movie maker to produce this 1 minute animation.  It was a little strange at first but anybody can learn how to do it.  It's actually very easy.  I think my favorite part about using the software was that you get to be very creative with scripting your film without having to actually shoot anything with a real physical camera. It's quite ingenious!  I decided I wanted to make my short a little funny so I chose to do a parody of Snooki from MTV's Jersey Shore.  In summary the short is about Snooki getting caught in the office instead of the pool where she wants to be.  The short features her usual characteristics about rambling on about materialistic possessions along with her boyfriends, jewels, and tanning.  I love to bring people happiness and joy so I thought I put this little something together to stir up the crowd in laughter. Snooki is a crazed sensation around the United States so I thought what better character to use than someone everyone is so familiar with!

Week 1 EOC: What sacrifices are you willing to make for your Career?

I'm pretty tenacious about my goals and willing to do just about whatever it takes to make a major advancement in my career.  Sacrificing is a big role in some peoples' lives but I wouldn't say it's something drastic in mine.  I'm willing and eager to do whatever it takes.  Networking with professionals and finding opportunities has been my main objective.  In my current state of living, I have no attachments to hold me back from my career.  I have no children.  I'm not married.  I don't have a mortgage to pay.  I don't have a car payment.  It's just me and my will to conquer all that life has to offer!  When I graduate I'll be willing to move if need be.   If I gain an opportunity to work within my field you betch'a I'm willing to pay my dues and scrubs some floors with a tooth brush for a chance of a lifetime! Truthfully the only attachement that could possibly throw a wrench in the mix is my love life.  It could possibly be a problem, but I'll manage it.  I'll do what I have to do.  The truth is I'm young and determined, and I won't let anything stop in my way.  There will be time for love and time for toys.  Everyday I grow older and wiser.  I learn lessons and gain maturity.  Everyday I'm working to be the best professional of my kind.  And to answer this question simply,  Yes! I'm willing to make many sacrifices for my career!

Week 1 BOC: Will you be living in your city after 5 Years of Graduation?

After 5 years of graduation it is not my intention to leave Vegas.  In the event that my career calls for it, I am indeed willing to move!  I have all my family here in Vegas and this place is somewhere I’d want to be for them. I’m familiar with the way this city changes so I think I may have an advantage compared to other places.  Also my field is in Audio Production so staying here actually isn’t that bad of an idea.  Our town has many shows on the strip and all of them require sound expertise of some kind. In the long run I would like to stay in Las Vegas but I am definitely wiling to move if I need to!
